Loans

Financial aid for the Learn on Demand program functions a little differently than financial aid for courses on campus or online through Learn By Term. Please contact the Go KCTCS! Student Service Center for more information.

Federal Direct Loan Program

The Federal Direct Loan Program provides financial assistance through lenders to expand higher education opportunities for undergraduate, graduate, and professional students attending postsecondary schools on at least a part time basis.

Subsidized Direct Loan

Students must show financial need to qualify for the subsidized loan. The federal government, on behalf of the borrower, pays the interest that accrues while the student is in school, during authorized deferment periods and for six months after the student ceases to be enrolled at least part time. The borrower begins paying the interest when the loan enters repayment. For more information about subsidized direct loans, please see the Federal Direct Loan Program website.

Unsubsidized Direct Loan

Students are not required to show financial need to qualify for the unsubsidized loan. Unlike the subsidized loan, the unsubsidized loan begins accruing interest immediately upon disbursement, regardless of enrollment status. The borrower must begin repaying the loan, with interest, six months after they have ceased to be enrolled at least half-time; however, they may begin repayment at any time. For more information about unsubsidized direct loans, please see the Federal Direct Loan Program website.
